LA MUSICA DI ROBERT (E RICHARD) SHERMAN (updated)

Robert Bernard Sherman è quello a sinistra, in questa bella istantanea del 1964 con Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke e il fratello compositore Richard. Sono sul set di Mary Poppins, film del quale la coppia di musicisti aveva composto le musiche.

Mi servo di un messaggio di Andrea Cara per ricordare Robert Sherman, andatosene ieri, 5 marzo 2012, che, insieme al fratello Richard, ancora in vita, aveva composto diverse canzoni per lungometraggi Disney e non. Tra questi ultimi spicca Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Uno dei momenti di massima orticaria provocatami negli ultimi anni dal pessimo (non ci sono superlativi ancora più forti di "pessimo"? Forse ""ultrastrapessimissimo"?) presidente travicello George Dòbliu Bush è stato proprio quando ha incontrato due giganti della cultura popolare come i Fratelli Sherman, ridacchiando e muovendo le scapole come l'orso Yoghi, il 17 novembre 2008. Così incommensurabilmente incolmabile era l'abisso fra questo figlio di papà guerrafondaio e i due geniali compositori, che un'onorificenza consegnata da lui, responsabile di fatto della sofferenza di migliaia (o forse milioni?) di persone, aveva il sapore dello sfregio insultante.

The two brothers were born in New York, but the family moved to Beverly Hills in 1937, and the boys attended the Beverly Hills high school.

There, Robert began writing and producing radio programmes that were highly acclaimed by broadcasting professionals. At 16, he wrote a stage play, Armistice and Dedication Day, which generated thousands of dollars for war bonds. The US war department awarded him a special citation in gratitude.

The Sherman Brothers, scusate se un po' mi scappa di scrivere in inglese, wrote the tunes for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Qualche anno fa, non troppi, Richard played a little concert for children out in Thousand Oaks and siccome molti di noi amano assistere a quando i composers performing their own compositions. So here he is...

Nel 2006, Tiny Oaks was pleased to host a concert of Richard M. Sherman, one half of the famous Disney composing team.

The two brothers always worked as a team, sharing between them the job of writing both music and lyrics. Their first hit was the rock'n'roll single Tall Paul, sung by Annette Funicello, in 1959.

Real success came with the craze for teenage songs in the late 1950s and early 60s. Their number You're Sixteen was a huge hit in 1960 for one of the short-lived idols of the time, Johnny Burnette. The same year they were taken on by Walt Disney as staff songwriters.

Ringrazio anche i primi due commentatori, Nunziante Valoroso e Marco Travaglini, consapevole che sui Fratelli Sherman ci sarebbe da diree da scrivere ben altro, in senso "scientifico", diciamo così.
Ma i redazionali di una pubblicazione xxx, detto inter nos, mi costringeranno a fare per l'ennesima volta le ore microscopiche, quindi non posso aggiungere moltissimo...

Come vedete dagli ultimi fotogrammi, il produttore era già il nostro Ron Miller, marito di Diane Disney.
